About Our Worship

Worship, Scripture, and Service are at the heart of life at St. Mary's in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

At St. Mary's Episcopal Church, we gather each week to celebrate the Holy Eucharist, study Scripture, and grow together in faith. All are welcome at the table.

Sunday Worship Services

8:00 AM — Rite I
Holy Eucharist

A spoken, traditional service using the historic language of Rite I from the Book of Common Prayer. This quiet, reverent service offers a contemplative start to Sunday morning and is well-suited for those who appreciate the beauty of classical liturgical expression.

10:30 AM — Rite II
Choral Holy Eucharist

Our choral service uses the contemporary language of Rite II and features music from our choir. This family-friendly service includes a children's sermon and Sunday School for children, as well as Discovery Hour for adults.

Sunday School
For Children

Children are welcomed and nurtured in faith through Sunday School held during the 10:30 service. A children's sermon is also offered as part of the main service, helping our youngest members feel fully included in worship.

Discovery Hour
For Adults

Discovery Hour provides adults with an opportunity for deeper engagement with Scripture, theology, and the life of the church. This adult formation program runs alongside Sunday School, making Sunday morning a time of learning for all ages.

Scripture and the Bible at St. Mary's Episcopal Church

Rooted in Scripture

Every service at St. Mary's is deeply grounded in Holy Scripture. The Book of Common Prayer weaves the Bible throughout our worship — in the readings of the Lectionary, the Psalms we sing, and the prayers we offer. The Word of God is central to all we do.

From Sunday morning services to Wednesday evening Bible Study, we continually return to Scripture as a living word that speaks into our lives, our community, and our world. We believe that reading, hearing, and studying the Bible together is an essential part of faithful discipleship.

Worship at St. Mary's Episcopal Church

Worshipping from the Book of Common Prayer

All of our services at St. Mary's are rooted in the Book of Common Prayer, the foundational liturgical text of the Episcopal Church. For centuries, the Prayer Book has provided a common framework of worship that unites Episcopalians across the world in shared language, rhythm, and prayer.

Whether you are a lifelong Episcopalian or exploring Christian worship for the first time, the liturgy of the Book of Common Prayer offers a beautiful and meaningful way to encounter God — through Scripture, prayer, the Sacraments, and the community of faith.
