Ways to Serve in Worship
At St. Mary's, every member has gifts to offer. Discover how you can serve your community through worship.
Worship Ministries
The worship life of St. Mary's Episcopal Church is enriched by the dedicated service of our congregation. Explore the many ways you can use your gifts to lead and enhance our shared worship.
Acolytes
Acolytes serve at the altar and assist the priest during worship services, playing a vital and visible role in the liturgy.
Altar Guild
Altar Guild members are responsible for the sacred vessels, vestments, and the overall appearance and beauty of our worship space.
Choir
The Choir leads the congregation in singing, bringing joy and reverence to our worship. Contact Betsy S. if you are interested in joining.
Chalicists
Chalicists administer the chalice during Holy Communion and lead the Prayers of the People during worship services.
Lay Ministers
Lay Ministers lead Compline — a traditional evening prayer service — as well as Morning Prayer services for the congregation.
Lay Readers
Lay Readers read the Old and New Testament lessons and the Psalm during worship services, helping proclaim the Word of God.
Greeters
Greeters welcome worshippers, distribute bulletins, bring the bread and wine to the altar, and provide warm hospitality while overseeing the well-being of the congregation.
Eucharistic Visitors
Eucharistic Visitors bring the Holy Sacrament to members of our congregation who are homebound, extending the Eucharist beyond our walls.
Prayer Leaders
Prayer Leaders guide the entire congregation through the Prayers of the People, giving voice to our collective intercessions and thanksgivings during worship.
Every Gift Matters
Since 1898, the people of St. Mary's Episcopal Church have come together to worship, serve, and grow in faith. Our worship ministries are the heartbeat of our community — and there is a place for everyone.
Whether you feel called to serve quietly behind the scenes or to take a visible role in leading worship, your gifts and dedication make a meaningful difference to our parish family in Waynesboro.
