Blog Post 5/24/16

Welcome to the first post of what will become my weekly blog. It is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I feel blessed that it is now becoming a reality. Although this is a new endeavor, it is also reconnecting me with something that has always been.

I’ve always been a writer. By the time I was in third grade, I was composing little stories that I wrote and illustrated with crayon. My third grade teacher noticed this and put a special pile of paper out; inviting me to help myself and write once I had finished my classwork.

Other teachers encouraged me in similar ways and I will always remember their kindness. It reminds me over and over again of the importance of supporting and encouraging each other in our Christian journeys.

And that’s my hope in this blog. I hope that each week it will give some support, a little insight, perhaps a challenge or two. It will be a way of keeping connected and encouraging one another as we go about our busy lives and the reality happens between Sundays.

Early Christian communities were very isolated. There were no Facebook pages or e-mails or telephones. Apostles came, stayed awhile, and then moved on. The only way they had to keep in touch was through letters – letters that we revere today as the Epistles. I hope this blog may become a similar way for us to become more connected.

This is really your blog. Please do make comments, ask questions, give suggestions. In time, perhaps, this space can become more of a conversation than simply something more to read each week.

And know that I’m excited about learning and growing as I develop this each week. And I’m looking forward to hearing from you as this process unfolds.
